What to wear for your Boudoir Session

“What should I wear for my boudoir session?” That is the number one question photographers get asked about boudoir. Picking something that fits you, your style and your body is an overwhelming process, but don’t let that frighten you.
Everyone that books a boudoir session wants to look and feel confident and glamorous during their session. One of the easiest ways to do that is to determine what outfits will compliment your figure and the mood that you are hoping to have the photographer capture. What are your best features? Is there something that you want to highlight for your partner? One other thing to consider is if you have any areas you want to conceal.
Your photographer is going to highlight your shape and your curves, so look for pieces that show it off. Lines in a V-shape in the waist area will give the illusion of a smaller waist and larger hips. This is great for ladies that aren’t naturally curvy. Plunging necklines can make shoulders appear broader, breasts larger and waist flatter.

If you are worried about your belly, try a vintage look with high waisted bottoms, corsets, bodysuits, a babydoll slip or a t-shirt. Say you really want to show off those gorgeous legs of yours, well you are in luck because there is no short supply of thigh-highs, stockings and high heels to help you with that! Check out AdoreMe for a variety of looks, or pick up some super romantic and lacy babydolls over at Intimissimi.
Boudoir isn’t always about lingerie. There is plenty that is sensual and gorgeous in a button-down shirt, t-shirts, robes, and oversized sweaters with a pair of cute panties.
Black and white are the top outfit colors, don’t be afraid to spice it up by adding color. By selecting a variety of outfits in different colors, you will benefit by having great diversity in your images.

So you went out and bought all kinds of great outfits, don’t forget to actually try them all on. You want to do a test run with your new looks. Put them on, bend and twist, lay down and stand up on your tippy toes. Are your outfits comfortable? If not, return the pieces and look for something else. Ensuring that you are comfortable should be your top priority.
Knowing what sizes you wear will help you in your search. Don’t hesitate to get a professional to measure you! Having a supportive top piece that keeps the girls from popping out, yet doesn’t cut into you and leave indentations is key.
Trust your instincts, they are normally right. If you’re thinking too hard about a specific piece or an outfit, set it to the side and keep searching. Once you have everything you think you might want or need, chat with your photographer and see if they have complimenting pieces or accessories that will hit it out of the park. Most of all, have fun with finding what to wear for your boudoir session!
